Thank you for supporting Overlooked Founders

This Thanksgiving we're thanking you.

For believing in us.

It's no question that pursuing ambitious projects is mentally, physically, and spiritually challenging. Even more so for projects that hope to end social ills. Even more so for projects made by those who live the problems they seek to resolve. But in the spirit of justice, progress, and venture we do this not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

Meet Esosa Ohonba, JD, MPH—founder/CEO of Layman! Esosa received his JD from NYU School of Law and a Master's of Public Health, Population, and Family Health…

Apologies for the radio silence we've been hard at work-

Building the best, mobile-first platform for researching, drafting, and servicing state-level civil lawsuits for lawyers and laypeople.

It may surprise some of you but Layman is still here. We're keeping our heads to the ground because we are so close to launching an amazing web app that will radically transform the way Americans experience law.

To date:

  • We've grown, more than a dozen interns, volunteers, fellows, and advisors have given more than 200 hours towards the Layman project since it's inception.

    • For a special shout out, this work including the creation of more than 2000 resources to share at launch; more than 50 hours of training data for our model; legal research leading to the incorporation, trademark (we're changing from Layman to Layman's), and development of our platform; and the development of incredible technical and process solutions such as Automated Vickrey Auction Bidding, our Foursquare GTM strategy, and Document Automation technologies.

  • We've raised, gifts from NYU, Village Capital, and others give us momentum as we prepare to start a pre-seed round in earnest. Shout out the accelerators that have hosted us as well.

  • We've connected, we will be bringing on at least three legal entities onto our platform to provide last mile solutions to pro se litigation such as traffic ticket management, debt collections, and more. The door is always open.

  • We've built, using a stack of React, WatsonX, and Supabase we've developed our backend, built out our preliminary AI model, and are finalizing our front-end to launch before the end of this year.

  • Now we are in code-review for our app prior to launch and look forward to sharing some great news before the end of the year.

Building has been both an adventure and a challenge, it feels like everyone is waiting to see what this rag tag team of minorities and women will build with AI, and if they will build at all. It's exciting to say that the wait is quickly coming to an end. And in case you forgot who we are:

LSNYCSERVE.MY.CANVA.SITE

You, yes you, are the reason why we build.

Hopefully we can reclaim justice together.

If you are receiving this email you've helped us get one step closer to eradicating the access to justice gap in America in some way. Maybe it's advice, maybe it's work, maybe you just joined the mailing list. But for that reason we thank you. We're at 500 strong now (hence Mailchimp) and it's only beginning. If you want to help, you know where to find us; if you need help, don't hesitate to call on www.laymans.app.
